About Dr. Riff

Kenneth Riff MD FACP MSEE is a board certified internist with a strong background in medical technology and bioengineering. He received his MD from the University of California at San Francisco in 1977 and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado Medical Center in 1980. He practiced hospital-based based medicine from 1980 through 1988 in Denver while completing a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Colorado at Denver. He then spent 25 years in a variety of research, development, clinical, and business leadership roles at Medtronic Inc. in Minneapolis, where he received numerous leadership awards and received 14 patents in medical technology.

From 2003 through 2008, he created and led the Hawaii Heart Brain Center at North Hawaii Community Hospital, a program designed to improve heart disease and stroke prevention and treatment in North Hawaii. While at NHCH, he also served as chairman of the Integrated Healing Committee.

Since 2005 he has been the course director for the course Integrative Healing in Hawaii, a course offered through the University of Minnesota Medical School to introduce fourth year medical students to the advantages of an integrative approach to medicine.

His work at Ho’o Lokahi is designed to dovetail with the clinic’s naturopathic philosophy of care, believing that combining traditional western medical practices with the natural approaches of naturopathy brings the “best of both worlds” to medical care.

His primary medical interests include cardiology and type 2 diabetes.
